eCard Phishing Scam

August 18, 2008

A malicious email message purporting to be an "e-card" from the Greeting Card Association (greetingcard.org) is being sent to UA community members. The message requests that the recipient click on a link to access the "e-card". The link does not point to a Web domain; rather, it will download harmful software to your computer. Commercial antivirus products are not always able to immediately detect and remove this malicious software.

You can read more about the alert on the Greeting Card Association website.

We recommend that, if you receive an unsolicited e-mail or you are unsure of the sender, you do not reply, do not click any links contained within it, and do not open any attached files. Those actions have been known to infect computers.

Also, please remind your colleagues to be aware of these types of phishing scams - their infected machines could negatively impact others.

If you may have clicked on the link, contact the Information Security Office immediately at 621-UISO or iso@u.arizona.edu. Alternatively, you may contact the 24/7 IT Support Center at 626-TECH.
